MICHAELA KONRAD, born in Graz (AT), lives and works in Vienna (AT) and in
Santa Cruz de Tenerife (ES). She received her artistic education at the Centro Municipal
de Arte Gráfico in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (ES) and during one year at the University of
Applied Arts in Vienna (AT).
Michaela Konrad’s work encompasses a broad spectrum of media – preferably offset lithography, screen printing as well as animations and augmented reality. She paints in the tradition of flat painting, avoiding the artistic gesture. Instead, she strives to reduce the line, the brushstroke and the form to the essentials. And the idea is always the prerequisite and the drawing the basis of her creative work. In various projects, she experiments with new media and creates a combination of digital and traditional drawing.
Michaela Konrad rejects the use of AI systems that generate images, animations, texts and music. On the one hand, because they disregard the rights of the authors of the works with which they were trained and at the same time devalue the creative achievements of humans. On the other hand, Michaela Konrad does not want the integrity of her artistic expression and creative process to be manipulated by AI applications.

For those who want to know how we make offset lithographs at the Escuela municipal de Arte Grafico, here is a making-of video. I have been making my prints in the city center of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands) for about 20 years. Since 2005 I make my prints in collaboration with Manuel Arias Mata and Fabian Castilla Labrador.
